Street Fighter 3's development overlapped with the tail end of the Street Fighter Alpha series', and Capcom leaned into this choice offering even further by giving all characters three Supers to choose from at the character select screen. This was achieved through the 3-option "ISM" system, and allowed players to choose between having access to custom combos instead of traditional Supers, access to a single souped up Super combo, or access to three less-powerful Super combos while fighting. When the third evolution of Street Fighter Alpha dropped in 1998, Capcom essentially gave players a choice of different Super attacks for any given character. Super combos first popped up back in 1994's Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and while they've been a staple of SF (as well as almost every other fighting game franchise) since, Capcom has handled them in various ways.
